Rifampin-resistant beta-subunit of RNA polymerase RpoB

Resistance to rifampin is primarily caused by direct mutations in the rpoB gene, which encodes the beta-subunit of the bacterial ribosome. These mutations block the binding of rifampin and therefore cause resistance by evasion of the mechanism of action.
