Fosfomycin

Fosfomycin is a bacteriocidal antibiotic that inhibits UDP-(N-acetyl)glucosamine-3-enolpyruvyl transferase (MurA), an enzyme responsible for early stage synthesis of the peptidoglycan component of the bacterial cell wall. It is most commonly used to treat urinary tract infections, however interest in using it in the treatment of multi-drug resistant bacteria has grown in recent years.
